Day 1: Dian Fossey Tomb Hike from Kigali

At a time and place decided upon, your guide will pick you up in Kigali city at 6:00 am and take you to Volcanoes National Park, which is famous for gorilla trekking in Rwanda and is home to endangered mountain gorillas. Once you get to the park, you’ll be able to take part in a training session about the Dian Fossey grave hike. After the session, you’ll be paired up with a guide who will take you on a safari experience in the park.

After the meeting, you should go to the Karisoke study center to find the grave of Dian Fossey. Animals like the Devil’s monkey, the Mona monkey, the vervet monkey, the silver monkey, the black and white colobus monkey, and many more will catch your eye on the way to the hike. For Volcanoes National Park, don’t forget to bring your bird checklist with you because you will be able to see many kinds of birds.

In your journey to the grave, you will learn more about Dian Fossey’s life and how she started gorilla climbing in Africa. Her work is still used today to learn more about these amazing animals. When you get to the gorilla graveyard, you can see the graves of Dian Fossey’s friends who were killed by poachers.

You can also see her own grave, which has a stone that says how much she loved her gorilla friends, as well as the grave of her favorite gorilla digit. You will get back to your guide after the trip, and he or she will take you back to Kigali city and drop you off at a place of your choice.
